Since 15 August 2025, Sri Lanka’s Bills of Exchange (Amendment) Act No. 13 of 2025 lets a court fine the full value of the cheque, hand down up to two years in prison, or both. The trade still runs on post-dated paper. So the book that tracks it stopped being a nice extra.
